This arrangement of Vivaldi’s famous melody is intended for a mixture of beginners and more intermediate players; fingerings or slide positions are given in some parts, and it should be possible to find a part to suit most young players. I have used it successfully with a small group of about a dozen or so primary school children and also with a much larger group on a workshop day. The piece does not require all the parts; as long as the piano part and at least one of the melody parts is present, you will have a viable performance. Obviously a larger ensemble with a variety of instruments will give the intended impression of an orchestral group. Some instruments are doubled ‒ it should be easy enough to spot which ‒ and therefore not all parts appear in the score. Guitar parts include tab, but reading from standard notation is to be encouraged! Any untuned percussion instruments should not overpower the melody and must be used sensitively.
