A Few Useful Ideas for Playing Jazz on the Clarinet
This booklet is not an attempt to make you into a jazz musician (whatever that is). They are patterns that I have found useful to know as I have listened to jazz and tried my hand at playing in a jazz ensemble. Inevitably this involves improvisation, and a basic understanding and fluency with some of the frequently used patterns will help you to gain confidence. Real stylistic playing will only come from experience with good musicians and plenty of listening to music. This is just intended to help you make a start on that path.
The booklet includes chord patterns (including an explanation of accompanying chord symbols) and major and minor blues scales in all keys.
Included Parts
P1 Chord exercises in F and G major P2 Chord exercises in D, G, C, F and B flat major, with varying articulations and including chord symbols for each bar P3 - 5 Major and minor blues scales in all keys
