Playing duets can be great fun and even quite entertaining for the listener. I play duets regularly with my pupils; I find this helps them get in the swing of sight reading and always keeping going regardless of the technical problems they may encounter. My clarinet teacher regularly made me play duets with him and I learnt a lot from him about tone, balance and intonation as a result. It is a very intimate form of music making and consequently can be very expressive. I love playing duets, whether it is with a less experienced player or otherwise.
